Team Edward or Team Jacob?

Reminiscing Twilight days. ^_^

THE TOP 10 REASONS TO BE TEAM JACOB:

10. If you’re ever stuck out in a snowstorm, his body heat could save your life.
9. He has the best vamp insults and some great blonde jokes!
8. He’s still young enough to be impulsive and foolish. Every girl needs more of that in her life!
7. He could take you out to eat and actually eat with you.
6. He is a 6’7” tall, gorgeous, muscular Native American – what else do you need?
5. He’s half naked most of the time.
4. Sometimes a girl needs a heating pad rather than an ice pack.
3. He is the epitome of tall, dark, and handsome. Plus, he’s HOT!
2. He’s like a puppy and a boyfriend all wrapped up in one!
1. He won’t leave you stranded in the forest after breaking up with you.

THE TOP TEN REASONS TO BE TEAM EDWARD:

10. Because he’ll hold your drink for you when you need to use your hands, and he’ll keep it cold, too. Not to mention he can be your personal ice-pack when you have a Bella moment.
9. He’s a vampire and they’ve been around for centuries whereas werewolves are just new inventions. (Quote courtesy of Rob Pattinson)
8. He won’t fall asleep and drool all over you.
7. Who needs a disco ball when you have Edward? Just take him outside and dance it up ’cause he sparkles!
6. He’s a gentleman and will offer you choices.
5. He won’t stink like a wet dog if you wash him.
4. Jacob may run a 108° temperature but Edward’s still hotter.
3. He’ll whisper sweet nothings in your ear in many different languages as well as quote Romeo & Juliet verbatim.
2. Because, in the end, he got the girl!
1. He is portrayed by Robert Pattinson….need we say more?

Robert Pattinson is the antagonist of New Moon?

http://content9.flixster.com/question/58/02/15/5802155_std.jpg
California - So days ago when New Moon prod team finally revealed the poster of the upcoming sequel of Stephenie Meyer's phenomenal vampire book turned into a worldwide hit flick. Three characters graced the poster, and it turns out (like the story from the book), "New Moon" will highlight the love story of the karate boy turned werewolf Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart.

Sorry for those Robert Pattinson fans (that includes me, darn), Rob Pattinson is somewhat the "semi-antagonist" of New Moon. By interpreting the poster enhanced by photoshop, Taylor Lautner's character Jacob is trying to protect Bella from the bloodsucker 108 year old pale hottie vampire named Edward Cullen played by Pattinson.

I remember director Chris Weitz revelation that a lot of CGI Robert Pattinson will be seen, for those New Moon fans not familiar with CGI -- it's a computer generated or enhanced effect thing. Meaning, Robert Pattinson's participation in New Moon was kinda limited. With the antagonist thing, I'm not still sure if the prod team sticked to the exact same story of Meyer's book, or they changed the whole thing to please the fans of Robert Pattinson.
Die hard Edward Cullen fans, do you agree? xD

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart re-unite under Italian sun

http://a123.g.akamai.net/f/123/12465/1d/www.vancouversun.com/entertainment/robert+pattinson+kristen+stewart+unite+under+italian/1632171/1632244.bin

VANCOUVER - Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are re-united under the Italian sun, far from the soggy streets of Vancouver, usual home of the Twilight sequel New Moon.
The duo, who play vampire Edward Cullen and his amore, Bella Swan, in the cinematic version of Stephenie Meyer's romantic series, have been accustomed to dodging paparazzi in Canada's West Coast, and frequenting trendy downtown haunts like the Glowbal grill.

But now they will have to put up with the more aggressive shutterbugs in the country that gave the world the term paparazzi, thanks to the news photographer featured in Italian director Federico Fellini's masterpiece, La dolce vita.

Pattinson is having a great spring, having made the scene at the Cannes Film Festival in the south of France before flying to Italy to really make the scene - or scenes - in New Moon.
So it's work that summoned Stewart to team up again with the world's favourite vampire. With her came fellow actress Ashley Greene, but left behind in North America was Taylor Lautner. Apparently the Italian shoots didn't require unrequited werewolves, so Lautner zoomed south to Los Angeles instead.

'New Moon' trailer: A 14-second tease with a one-second kiss

Because we can't possibly wait until Sunday night to see the trailer for The Twilight Saga: New Moon premiere on the MTV Movie Awards, Entertainment Tonight has scored itself a 14-second tease (which I am ashamed to admit I found out about through a Ryan Seacrest Tweet). Check it out below. I'm not sure what there is to say other than that Kristen Stewart does some nice eyebrow acting and, of course, that Bella's birthday present is worth $20,000.

Twilight wars: The fan divide over Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner

Jacob-New-Moon.jpgTHERE'S no doubt that the Twilight book and film franchise has generated a massive following, particularly for Robert Pattinson who plays vampire heart-throb Edward Cullen.

But he's not the only male cast member to be getting attention. An increasing number of fans are focusing on Taylor Lautner, who plays Jacob Black in Twilight and its upcoming sequel New Moon.
Various images online, including this fan creation from Grodansnagel on DeviantArt, are proving popular with his admirers.

There have been some dubious and unsubstantiated tabloid reports of tension and jealousy between Pattinson and Lautner on the New Moon set - some even suggesting the actors were involved in physical fights because Taylor has a larger role and more scenes with Kristen Stewart, who plays Bella Swan (even though this follows the story in the original novel).

But while that rivalry between the actors is almost certainly nonsense, there is definitely a rivalry between the fans.

Online, there's a clear divide between Team Edward and Team Jacob - and those are the terms actually used by either side. But who is your favourite and why? Can Lautner Love ever be a rival to Pattinson Power!?

It's clear that passions run high; for instance there is one Facebook page claiming Lautner is better than Pattinson because his teeth, tan, muscles and body hygiene are far superior!

Lautner is only 17 and was named one of People Magazine's 100 Most Beautiful People of 2009. His character Jacob Black is a member of the Quileute (a real-world native American tribe living in Washington state) and one of an ancient line of werewolves, who are enemies of the vampires. He stars along several other actors who are also werewolves, as revealed earlier in this official photograph.

In the first book, Jacob plays a key part in Bella Swan discovering Edward is a vampire. In New Moon, Edward leaves - Bella and Jacob then develop a growing friendship that takes various twists and turns and tests her loyalties.

Jacob is a larger, older character in New Moon, so there were reports of recasting the role because Lautner lacked the physicality.

One Tree Hill actor Michael Copon had said on his Facebook page that he had been chosen to replace Lautner but that proved to be a premature announcement. In January it was confirmed that Lautner would continue in the role and he went on an intense work-out regime - putting on about 30 pounds - to meet the physical requirements.

Meanwhile, a new hunk is set to enter the equation when the third novel, Eclipse, is made into a movie.
Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg is keen for Channing Tatum to play vampire Riley in the Eclipse film.
At this rate, the Twilight hunkometer will reach boiling point and fan interest will be a hotbed of hysteria. Will we then see a Team Tatum emerge in the Twilight community?

Kristen Stewart Gets Closer to Robert Pattinson's Parents

Things are getting more serious between Kristen Stewart and her "Twilight" co-star Robert Pattinson. Elizabeth Reaser, who stars as Esme Cullen on the vampire drama movie, claims the 19-year-old beauty has tried to develop a good relationship with Pattinson's parents, Richard and Clare Pattinson, during the star's 23th birthday party on May 13. Additionally, Reaser admits that the twosome has very close relationship. "Kristen and Rob have amazing chemistry," she told Life and Style at "The Bash" charity event in Los Angeles on Sunday, May 17. "They're great together."

Most recently, Kristen Stewart was seen having dinner with Robert Pattinson at Glowbal Grill and Satay Bar in Vancouver, Canada to celebrate his 23rd birthday. The British actor's parents also joined them going to the restaurant. "Robert's parents were all smiles," a source previously said. "They were kind of quiet but very gracious and polite. You could easily see where Robert got his reserved demeanor from."

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson: On-Set Smooch!

Sure to make all of the “Twilight” fans’ day a little brighter, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson shared a passionate kiss while filming a scene for “New Moon” in Montepulciano, Italy on Wednesday (May 27).

The co-star pals got hot and heavy, with Robert walking out shirtless before planting a big kiss on Miss Stewart.

The smooch scene comes as Mr Pattinson’s recent hookup in Cannes, Erika Dutra, has been chatting with the tabloids about the pair’s rendezvous.

“We had a great time together! Rob’s very sweet,” Erika told Star magazine. “He’s even better-looking in person than he is in photographs.”

Meanwhile, Erika’s friend, Amika Akaya, tells that she’s not surprised that Pattinson was drawn to Dutra, telling, “Not only is she beautiful, but she’s also a really great person — fun, outgoing and super-sweet.”

It's Dakota Fanning joining The Twilight Saga: New Moon in Italy

http://image.examiner.com/images/blog/wysiwyg/image/Dakota(16).jpg

Well, what do you know? Dakota Fanning has made her way onto the set of The Twilight Saga: New Moon in Montepulciano, Italy, and the good people at German Twilighters have photographs of her coming in.

Looking happy, excited, and far from jaded with the Twilight whirlwind, Fanning made her way through the airport with a big smile. It's hard to believe that same little smile could be the one causing embittered torture to our Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) in the film, but, according to her co-star Michael Sheen (via Twitter while filming in Vancouver - see here), "Dakota may look the most unsettling though.

So angelic yet so weird . . . like an evil red riding hood."

Robert Pattinson committed to 'Breaking Dawn'

Robert Pattinson has confirmed that he'll star in Breaking Dawn, the fourth movie in the Twilight franchise -- he just doesn't know when. In Cannes, before heading to Italy to shoot the final four days on New Moon, the actor told The Hollywood Reporter that Summit Entertainment hasn't been able to set a start date for the final film because of his busy schedule. His plate includes shooting a romantic drama for the studio, Remember Me (formerly known as Memoirs); then wrapping the third Twilight film, Eclipse, this fall; and then joining Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz on the set of Madeleine Stowe's directorial debut, Unbound Captives, perhaps as early as year's end.

Ahooooo!

'Twilight': Stephenie Meyer puts 'Midnight Sun' on back burner 'indefinitely'

Twilight What a way to kick off the Labor Day weekend for "Twilight" fans.

In a note posted to her official website Thursday, author Stephenie Meyer tells her readers she has decided to discontinue "Midnight Sun," her planned retelling of "Twilight" from the teenage vampire Edward's perspective, after an unfinished draft was illegally posted and distributed on the Internet without her knowledge or permission.
If I tried to write "Midnight Sun" now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on "Midnight Sun," and so it is on hold indefinitely.
Meyer had originally made the only first chapter available on her site. Because the project is now virtually killed, she's made the incomplete draft available as well, but cautions that "the writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes."
I rather my fans not read this version.... It was only an incomplete draft.... But to end the confusion, I've decided to make the draft available.... I hope this fragment gives you further insight into Edward's head and adds a new dimension to the Twilight story. That's what inspired me to write it in the first place.
This has been a roller-coaster year for Meyer, who just completed a successful concert book series but has also had to answer for some of the backlash directed at "Breaking Dawn," the fourth and final installment of the "Twilight" saga.
But fans shouldn't fret: There's only three months until "Twilight" hits movie theaters.
As for Meyer, she's about to step behind the camera to direct a new music video for Jack's Mannequin's "The Resolution." The band is a favorite of the author's and appears on her online playlists.

Peek to Alice's Porsche in Montepulciano!

Awesome, it is. :)

Kristen Stewart loves the Cullens

Kristen Stewart (WENN image)Kristen Stewart thinks Robert Pattinson, Jackson Rathbone and the rest of the Cullens did a great job in Twilight.
She thinks the way they showed their 'connection' was great.
Kristen told Cinematical.com: "Yeah! They absolutely seemed to portray people that have been together not just for however long a normal family would be together...
"Families don't always want to be together all the time; (the Cullens) have chosen to be together all the time; it's different when you choose that, and absolutely I think they portrayed that; It's something you see that's so admirable, and you want to be part of it."
We can't wait to see the birthday party scene in New Moon and how Jackson goes for Bella.
Kristen admitted that the worst part of making a film is doing interviews which we found really funny because she was doing an interview at the time.
She was also asked what was the best part.
Kristen replied: "Being done. At the beginning of a project, it's like, so daunting. A lot of people were very celebratory (at the beginning of filming) because they knew that this was gonna be, like, "Oooh, it's a big movie! We have a built-in fan base! You guys are doing great!" Yeah, but our job is so far from being done.
"I'm always incredibly stressed out in the middle of making a movie, and once I'm finished, it's like "Whew... done." It's finished, and I don't have to stress out about it anymore; it's a done deal."

Embarrassed vampire Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson. He said:
Robert Pattinson. He said: "The Edward in the book is like an enigma of everything that's perfect about a man. It's like, 'He walked into a room and it hurts to see how beautiful he is.' It's just kind of embarrassing. I just couldn't figure out a way to act perfect. I felt like an idiot going into the audition - even having the gall to go in means you're a bit of an arrogant

The actor - who plays handsome vampire Edward Cullen in the hit movie and its upcoming sequel - felt like an "arrogant k" auditioning for the film because he is not flawless like '17 Again' hunk Zac Efron.

He said: "The Edward in the book is like an enigma of everything that's perfect about a man. It's like, 'He walked into a room and it hurts to see how beautiful he is.' It's just kind of embarrassing. I just couldn't figure out a way to act perfect. I felt like an idiot going into the audition - even having the gall to go in means you're a bit of an arrogant k. Who could possibly play it apart from Zac Efron?"

Despite his current pin-up status, the 22-year-old British actor says his casting was initially rejected by fans if the book series.

He explained to Look magazine: "'Twilight' fans are very loyal to the book and to the author Stephanie Meyer. And I got a 100 per cent negative reception when I got cast. I kind of expected it, though."

Robert - who also played Cedric in the wizard film franchise 'Harry Potter' - still struggles to cope with these newfound levels of fame.

He said: "I mean, in 'Harry Potter' people likes the characters, but they don't want to sleep with them. And I guess it kind of adds a different intensity to it, which I still haven't got my head around."

Robert Pattinson And Kristen Stewart Share Good Times

http://share.thumbplay.com/files/media/0003/7100/Edward_and_Bella_by_sicajess_large.jpg

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have been spending plenty of time together while filming New Moon on location in Vancouver. Stewart, who is dating Michael Angarano, and Robert Pattinson who plays Edward Cullen in the movie series don't pass up too many opportunities to hang out together.

According to Life and Style, Stewart and Pattinson and the whole cast of New Moon spent the evening together at Blue Water Cafe and Raw Bar on May 8. Even though the whole cast was there, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart emanated that special chemistry they're so well known for.

"Rob and Kristen took a bunch of cigarette breaks together," said an eyewitness. "They were laughing and telling jokes as they stood with their backs to everyone."

Rob Pattinson, 23, and Kristen Stewart, 19, even left the party together at 3am by limo. The two were photographed with their legs intertwined having a grand old time.

"They looked very happy," said a witness.

Even though they seem to enjoy each other's time, most insiders don't think the two are involved romantically. Although it would make sense to millions of movie-goers worldwide who enjoyed the chemistry they created by playing Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, they are just friends according to those who should know.

"They're really good friends," Peter Facinelli who plays Dr. Cullen said. "But Kristen has a boyfriend, and Rob knows it and I think he respects that."

But Facinelli understands why people might conclude the duo could be a couple off-screen as well.

"Everyone wants them to end up together," he said. "They're Edward and Bella, and their chemistry on the screen is so great. They make it seem like they should be in love forever."

Taylor Lautner reveals New Moon secrets

http://www.usmagazine.com/files/taylor-lautner-b.jpgTaylor Lautner is so exited about New Moon.

In this interview with Stardish radio Taylor talks about how he got the role of Jacob Black and what fans can expect from Jacob's tranformation in New Moon.

Taylor said: "Well I just got a call for this film called Twilight, I had no idea what it was, I hadn't actually heard of the book series and I was told I was going to meet with Catherine Hardwicke the director, which I was very excited about and then I met with her and I came back and I got to read with Kristen Stewart who plays Bella and I waited a little bit, I found out that I got the role.

"I was really excited just to be a part of this but I still had no idea what it was so then immediately I started reading Twilight and I fell in love with the story and the character I was going to be playing and still at that moment, you know, nobody had any idea how big this project was going to become.

"It's definitely been a thrill ride since then."

Taylor then started talking about New Moon and revealed that he won't be using his own martial arts skills.

He said: "I think the greatest part of this series is that we are staying true to the books and I mean that is what we should do as the books are amazing and it's what the fans love so I mean Jacob really doesn't have any martial arts skills so I think it would be untrue for me to be using some of those.

"But, the thing with Jacob is that he is clumsy before his transformation, he trips when he walks, once he transforms he is very agile so I think that's were most of it will come into play.

"We've got a few things up our sleeves that I'll be able to do to show Jacob's agility post transformation."

The Twilight Saga: New Moon poster revealed

http://image.examiner.com/images/blog/wysiwyg/image/NEWMOONPOSTER(2).jpg

It is finally here, ladies and gentlemen. The official poster for The Twilight Saga: New Moon has been released by Summit Entertainment for our viewing pleasure, and it's a good one.

Showing stars Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen), Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan), and Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black), the poster clearly reflects the challenge faced by our three most beloved characters in this, the film adaptation of New Moon by Stephanie Meyer.

Between the expressions on their faces, the positioning of their stances, and the luxuriously beautiful setting of the three, this poster goes to show that a picture really is worth a thousand words.

With fan anticipation for The Twilight Saga: New Moon at an all-time high as filming wraps in Vancouver and makes its way to Italy, the release of this piece couldn't come at a better time.

Taylor Lautner Is Thankful For Team Edward Fans

Taylor Lautner gets to step in as a leading man in the upcoming Twilight sequel, New Moon, but that doesn't mean that he isn't thankful for all of the dedicated Robert Pattinson fans out there.

The 16 year old actor told Twist magazine, "I'm so thankful for the fans, even those Robert Pattinson/Edward fans. I know I wouldn't be here filming New Moon if it wasn't for them."

Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner are currently filming the second installation of the vampire saga in Vancouver, British Columbia. They reprise their respective roles as Edward Cullen, Bella Swan and Jacob Black.

Will New Moon be Jacob's chance to kiss Edward's love Bella? Taylor wouldn't dish, "If you read the books you'll know the answer!"

New Moon is scheduled for a November 20, 2009 US theatrical release.

First Official ‘New Moon’ Movie Trailer Releases on Aug 14

new moon movie poster image

According to my sources the first official movie trailer for the highly anticipated “New Moon” film is set to be shown in theaters during the previews before the feature presentation of the new family, musical, movie, “Bandslam” which is due out on August 14,2009. This “Bandslam” movie just hit the marketing jackpot if a lot of “Twilight Saga” fans hear about this. Heck if nothing else, they’ll at least try and find out more of what “Bandslam” is about because of the attention from “New Moon” or maybe not. Who knows? I do know it can’t hurt the film.

I’ve already seen a lot of sites promoting “Bandslam” ,and it’s movie trailer just because of the “New Moon” trailer news so it’s already helping. “Bandslam’s” plot is about a 16 yr old boy who has to relocate to another school when his mom gets a new job in New Jersey. He eventually forms a band, and competes in a major band contest entitled none other than , “Bandslam”. It will star :Alyson Michalka, (Highschool Musical star)Vanessa Hudgens, Gaelen Connell, and Lisa Kudrow.

They have targeted “Bandslam” because it’s audience will most likely be the same demographics that “New Moon” will have for the most part. Also Summit Entertainment is the movie studio for the “Twilight Saga” films and “Bandslam” so there’s another correlation for you. Basically Summit Entertainment wants to help promote it’s less high profile movie with it’s more high profile movie with the correct demographics so they can in turn make more money on both fronts. I say Kudos. I just wish I was in on it. I will post a “Bandslam” movie trailer later on,today.

Mark your calendars, guys! :)

"Twilight" star Robert Pattinson celebrated his 23rd birthday on Wednesday, surrounded by friends and family in Vancouver, where he is currently filming "New Moon."

According to People.com, Pattinson was joined by Kristen Stewart, Ashley Greene and Jamie Campbell Bower at the Glowbal Grill and Satay Bar. "Everyone enjoyed a hearty meal and had a good appetite," an unidentified source told the Web site, saying they ate Kobe beef meatballs, lamb, steak, salads and roasted vegetables.

In addition to the meal, the group also dined on a selection of desserts, including cheesecake, chocolate coffee cake and white chocolate mousse. "There was a lot of buzz and energy in the restaurant," said the source. "Being in the same restaurant as Rob Pattinson for his birthday is great."

Us Weekly reported that in addition to his "New Moon" castmates, Pattinson's parents were also in attendance for the celebration. "Robert's parents were all smiles," a source said. "They were kind of quiet but very gracious and polite. You could easily see where Robert got his reserved demeanor from."

Despite having their location made public on Twitter mid-celebration, the group continued to hang out in the restaurant's V.I.P. area and its club, Afterglow, where they enjoyed cocktails and hung out and listened to music until about 1 a.m. A fan told People that Pattinson was cordial to his fans. "I was so happy to see Rob and help him celebrate his 23rd birthday," a fan said. "He took the time to meet us and take a picture with us, that was so cool."

Native American Twilight Lore and New Moon Quileute Legends

Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga has introduced a deep historical layer of Native American history into her popular series of Twilight novels by delicately mixing fact and fiction. Native American lore has long been a source of interest for anthropologists and historians who have dedicated scores of books to the stories of different tribes that include everything from creation stories to the changes in weather and placement of the sun and moon. Twilight brought parts of the La Push legends of the Quileute tribe to a mass audience. La Push itself is a real location and the home of the Quileute tribe in northern Washington State. The characters of Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner, and his father Billy are members of the tribe as well as a much bigger secret that has been well hidden for years. In the Twilight sequel New Moon, Stephanie Meyer allows her characters to tell their own stories concerning the legends, especially Jacob since he is an integral focal point in Meyer’s layers of Native American history.

Although the story of vampire versus werewolf is nothing new, the conflict raises a compelling question. Why choose that particular duel? Meyer herself has stated that the Twilight Saga is a completely fictional story from the vampire clans to the werewolf pack. The only part that was borrowed from real Quileute legend was the lore that the tribe was descended from wolves able to convert themselves into humans. Like the allure of the vampire, the werewolf story is far from defined. There are basic guidelines, for example, that reveal how the Twilight werewolves can change on a full moon or that a silver bullet similar to their vampire counterparts can kill them. In weaving her own creative Twilight tapestry while using both convention and her own originality, Stephenie Meyer has given Twilight Saga readers and New Moon fans an ultimate battle, pitting one supernatural creature against another, both with their own strengths and weaknesses.

History and the Werewolf

Although the Quileute tribe is said to be descended from wolves, there are a variety of Native North American tribes that have similar folklore in their rich lineage. The Navajo tribe (also known as the Navajo nation), the largest tribe in the United States, has a legend that is almost akin to the werewolf clan in the Twilight Saga. The Navajo version of the werewolf originates from the “Skinwalker” who actually attains the power to shape-shift. But in order to acquire the “evil” abilities of these shape-shifters, tribe members, as the legend goes, must kill a family member. On the other hand, the Quileute legend is much less gruesome as a Skinwalker is said to have encountered a wolf and then transformed it into a human being, thus the legend’s origins.

In relation to Twilight and New Moon, Stephanie Meyer takes it one step further by explaining in great detail how Jacob and the rest of the werewolf clan actually transform from human to werewolf from the angle of inner turmoil and the experience of the transformation. In New Moon, the transformation of Jacob Black is filled with questions surrounding mental pain and how the change is also linked to self-control. What’s different about how the legend and lore play out in New Moon with regard to the actual transformation, as compared to other werewolf based stories and films, is that it goes well beyond the visual transformation to a intriguing human level of emotion.

The Vulnerable Warriors

Although werewolves have long been looked at as villainous monsters , Meyer’s Twilight Saga exposes the emotional vulnerability of the creatures. Since the Twilight novels are deeply romantic in nature, what works so effectively for the Saga and New Moon is that the fear and intimidation associated with its “monsters” gets stripped away to large degree by pitting vampire against a werewolf for the love of a girl. And making Bella Swan human is all the more appealing since it taps into the timeless classical elements of the “forbidden” love story.

Twilight actors Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner already bring their striking physical appeal and charismatic charm to the Twilight films. Although Pattinson joined New Moon in relatively the same shape as Twilight, Lautner had more to prove for New Moon since he worked tirelessly to add 30 pounds of muscle to his frame in order to meet the physical requirements that Jacob Black endures in New Moon. Interestingly, both Jacob and Edward are not the typical, bloodthirsty monsters that they could have been portrayed as in similar stories. Instead they both fight their true non-human natures, rebelling against them with Bella’s help. Edward is eternally beautiful and elegant but deadly. Jacob is strikingly handsome but vicious. Their conflict is much more internal than solely overtly physical, which adds involving and relatable layers to the Twilight Saga.

Facts, Fiction, Legends and the Twilight Future

There’s no doubt that the Twilight Saga has generated an incredible, even phenomenal, amount of interest among fans, but it has also cast a huge spotlight on Native American culture and the origins of the Quileute legends. Unlike so many characters that are as fictional as the storylines surrounding them, Native American lore, whether from the Quileute tribe or others, is still being passed down through new generations while still being recorded by anthropologists and historians eager to preserve the various versions of similar stories. After all, the United States and Canada didn’t exist first, but the legends were alive well before borders were drawn on a map.

In Vancouver, British Columbia where New Moon is almost about to wrap up production, the Haida tribe off the B.C. coast in the Queen Charlotte Islands also have their own legends of shape-shifting, which center around bears instead of wolves. Interestingly, legends about shape-shifting humans are also similar to vampire lore throughout the ages and the ability of various bloodsuckers to change and transform. Still, Stephanie Meyer conceived two lead male characters, Edward Cullen and Jacob Black, as surreal heroes while tapping into similar stories and legends of the past to create a fresh new stage to showcase their supernatural abilities.

New Moon shifts the visible focus away from Edward and Robert Pattinson and directs it to Jacob and Taylor Lautner who undergoes an emotionally gripping, perhaps startling and compelling physical transformation. The challenge for director Chris Weitz and the production crew will be how they manage to create the transformations while maintaining the storyline from the New Moon novel.

Since Stephenie Meyer has created a new awareness concerning Native American culture, Twilight and New Moon have turned a bright spotlight on the many rich and deeply intriguing legends that have existed long before European vampires first settled on the shores of North America. In relation to New Moon and Native American legend, Jacob and his Quileute wolf pack have to prey on the facts in order to get the most out of the fiction. New Moon is a challenging responsibility for Taylor Lautner. If Lautner can execute the internal character evolution in concert with the physical challenge, Twilight and New Moon fans will get their money’s worth from the final edit of Jacob Black and his transformation.

'Twilight' sequel: 'New Moon' director will be Chris Weitz

Chrisweitz_l There will be a new director atop the Twilight franchise: and he'll be a man. Sources tell EW.com that Summit Entertainment is about to hire Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass) as the shepherd for New Moon, the second installment of Stephenie Meyer's best-selling Twilight series. Weitz is best-known for his work with his brother Paul. The two directed and produced American Pie and then were nominated for an Academy Award for best screenplay for About a Boy, which they also co-directed. Chris' first solo directing gig, The Golden Compass, didn't do well stateside but was a hit internationally.

Twilight, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, has grossed more than $141 million so far, but Hardwicke had clashed with the studio during production. It was announced early this week that she would not be making New Moon. Weitz has a solid relationship with Summit's top brass; he's considered easy to work with and has experience with special effects. "He's the quality-of-life-choice," says one source. While Summit insists "we have not yet signed Chris Weitz to do New Moon," and Weitz's agency says no deal has been signed, other sources say the deal is imminent, and that Summit has stopped negotiations with other potential Moon directors. Last weekend, Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood Daily broke the news that Weitz was in consideration for the gig, and she reported on Dec. 9 that Summit had made an offer to Weitz. Summit plans to officially announce this hiring decision on Sunday, Dec. 14, and could have Weitz in Vancouver, B.C. as early as Monday to start pre-production on the film.

'Twilight' director Catherine Hardwicke won't do sequel

Twilight_hardwicke_l Twilight fans, start your protest campaign now. Summit Entertainment has announced that it will not move forward with director Catherine Hardwicke for the Twilight sequel New Moon. According to Summit's press release, the studio and Hardwicke could not come to terms on a schedule; Summit's plan to release the film at the end of 2009 or beginning of 2010 did not work with the amount of prep time Hardwicke wanted to dedicate to New Moon. Similar to the Harry Potter franchise before it, Summit will now look to hire a new director to helm New Moon. According to a statement released by Hardwicke, "I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct New Moon. Directing Twilight has been one the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel—it is a great story."

'Twilight Saga: New Moon': First look at the Wolf Pack!

Newmoon_wolfpack And suddenly, we're thinking about changing teams...USA Today has the first look at The Twilight Saga: New Moon's Wolf Pack. You're gonna wanna go ahead and click "Enlarge" on their photo of actors Alex Meraz (Paul), Chaske Spencer (Sam), Bronson Pelletier (Jared), and Kiowa Gordon (Embry) in costume -- because by in costume, we really mean shirtless. "It's not pleasant for the actors," director Chris Weitz acknowledged from the Vancouver, B.C. set. "But they have all been good-natured. They show up on location in drenching, cold rain, and I say, 'OK, off with the robes.'" Weitz told the paper that the actors went through "wolf camp" together, which helped them bond -- "They drove each other to get more buff" -- and that in between takes, they can be found lifting barbells, doing push-ups and eating red meat. I can see the DVD bonus feature now. And I like it. (He also said that their four-legged CGI alteregos will have the actors' eyes. If they can pull that effect off -- awesome.)

So how are we feeling about the Wolf Pack now? Seriously, I don't think I fully grasped how hot they were in the books. Stephenie Meyer really should have gone into more detail about how Paul's pants fall on his hips. If Taylor Lautner is lookin' anything like these guys, I will, for the first time, understand how some of you could be on Team Jacob. Should we do a recount? Vote in the poll after the jump.

'Twilight' sequel: New details on 'New Moon'

Taylorlautnerjacob_l Summit Entertainment has tentatively slated Nov. 20, 2009, as the release date for New Moon, the Twilight sequel, which means any director who signs on to replace Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has to be in Vancouver by Dec. 15 to begin 12 weeks of preproduction before a mid-March start date. Reports have speculated that Hardwicke was fired for being difficult on set, but sources close to her suggest Summit's aggressive production schedule turned her off. "She'd love to do the sequel if she could do it better than Twilight,” says one. “It became clear that Summit didn’t have those same priorities."

Indeed, at press time the second movie appeared to have little more than a rough first-draft working script. As Summit’s production president Erik Feig told EW during Twilight’s record-busting first weekend, “There is that first...script. All the finesse that turns a screenplay into a movie hasn’t happened yet.” Two weeks later, Summit is saying it’s happy with screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg’s progress.

Another of Hardwicke’s primary concerns was that hunky vampire Edward remains MIA throughout New Moon’s middle portion. In her own opening-weekend interview, she told EW, “You have to get the chemistry as strong between Jacob and Bella as it was between Bella and Edward. You also have to do something with that arc: She’s in love with somebody, he disappears, she falls in love with someone else, and the first guy comes back. Movies like Pearl Harbor have tried it. It absolutely didn’t work.”

With or without Hardwicke, Summit faces other snags. Two sources tell EW the studio doesn’t want to rehire baby-faced Taylor Lautner (pictured) as Jacob, though Lautner’s agent has apparently reached out to the imaging company behind The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in an attempt to demonstrate to Summit how a digitally bulked-up Lautner could work. (Summit says it won’t make a decision until a new filmmaker is on board.) There’s also the matter of finding a cast of Native American actors to play Jacob’s werewolf clan — a difficult challenge Hardwicke was also faced with before settling on Lautner, who isn’t completely Native American. And with a slightly increased budget of $50 million — much of which is assumed will go to leads asking for heftier paydays, location shoots in Italy, and ramped-up F/X — Summit will have to scrimp somewhere.

So what director would want to take on such a big headache? Well, at press time, an offer was out to Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass), who put Summit on the map years ago when its foreign sales operation made tons of cash off of his first film, American Pie. (One source says Weitz has already had conversations with below-the-line crew for New Moon.) “We are in a recession,” reminds one Hollywood insider. “It’s a hit franchise. Whoever steps into it is guaranteed a $100 million gross. Everyone wants this movie.” Adds an exec at another studio, “You’d have to have a very high standard for art, hate the movie business, and hate money to walk off this sequel.”

How Will Robert Pattinson Be a Powerful Twilight Presence in New Moon?

As filming wraps up in Vancouver for the upcoming Twilight sequel New Moon, Twilight stars Robert Pattison, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Nikki Reed, Peter Facinelli and the other Twilight Saga actors will soon be looking ahead to their time in Italy where the New Moon production comes to a close. After the first Twilight film, based on the popular Stephenie Meyer series of novels, New Moon opens up the characters even more as they evolve into more diverse and emotionally concrete figures in the Twilight Saga. How each handles their characters for a second time, namely Robert Pattinson, is a powerful question surrounding the anticipation for New Moon.

For anyone not wanting to read overall plot and character points of the sequel, there are a few along the way. It’s impossible to get underneath Edward Cullen in New Moon so don’t say we didn’t warn you.

The nature of New Moon, however, sets a different tone than Twilight with its darker and more painful layers while an element of despair runs throughout the story. Edward Cullen, Bella Swan and Jacob Black each battle their own inner turmoil as they struggle with adolescence, love, the changes within themselves, and the dynamics of how they fit into the Twilight world with and without each other. Given how New Moon takes shape, the once upfront and visible Robert Pattinson in Twilight steps into the shadows for the sequel to make way for Taylor Lautner whose Jacob Black character becomes the major visible male presence.

Since the announcement and eventual 2008 release of Twilight, Robert Pattinson has quickly become one of the hottest young stars in Hollywood after his romantically imprinting portrayal of Edward Cullen, the new anti-hero of the cult fantasy world. Pattinson has proven to be one of the major, driving factors behind the success of the first Twilight film, as fans not only flocked to theatres to see how well Robert was able to inhabit Edward Cullen but also sparking near riots at some locations where Pattinson appeared for Twilight signings. But since Robert Pattinson and Edward Cullen are less visible in New Moon, how will the new Hollywood heartthrob keep the presence of Edward Cullen alive with less screen time?

Although the Edward Cullen character is less of an observable force, existing more within the conflict of New Moon, the absence of Cullen and Pattinson are integral to the New Moon storyline and the direction of Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan But while Jacob Black and Taylor Lautner step into the New Moon spotlight for a good portion of the film, Pattinson still has to bring to life one of the most popular literary characters of the past decade, and do it in less time than Twilight.

Edward Cullen will be a strong spirit in New Moon, but from an acting standpoint, Robert Pattinson will need to up the Twilight ante to make as much of an impression on New Moon as he did in Twilight. Although the events of New Moon have already been set in harmony with the novel, it’s not like Robert Pattinson can simply mail in his performance, especially since the Twilight Saga is – safe to say - twice as popular as it was before the first film. In leaving his imprint on New Moon, how will Pattinson make the most of his time for the sake of the character and the set-up to the third Twilight film, Eclipse?

New Dramatic Diversity

Featuring elements of the many effective literary love stories, Twilight characters Bella Swan and Edward Cullen were (and are) drawn together by an inexplicable pull as much as they were torn apart by their physical natures.

[spoilers]

In the sequel, Edward leaves Bella for her own safety, which sparks deep, emotional turmoil and pain in both characters but also opens up a new form of conflict. Although Jacob makes a physical transformation in New Moon, Edward is not far behind with a change of his own that’s directly related to Bella. New Moon becomes a turning point for Edward in his view of Bella. Pattinson has already proved to the world that he can play the brooding vampire but he will need to focus on expressing another side of the character in Edward’s distress. Interestingly, given how Pattinson is still in the early stages of his career, the emotional complexities within Edward in New Moon will require more of the actor than in previous roles he’s taken on in terms of dramatic diversity.

Having recently dealt with the emotional awkwardness of the relationship between creative legends Salvador Dali and Frederico Garcia Lorca in Little Ashes, a story that sees Pattinson confront the conflict of an alleged affair between the painter and the playwright, Robert Pattinson has been honing his dramatic sensibilities beyond Twilight. Given how Edward Cullen is, and has become a new extension of Robert Pattinson’s identity, along with a better ease with the character for a second film, Pattinson should be able to maximize his time in New Moon to fullest potential in each scene he steps into thanks to Little Ashes.

Finding the Twilight Balance

As the New Moon storyline progresses, Edward Cullen’s dramatic turn will no doubt set hearts on fire, but Pattinson must be careful not to overplay his Twilight hand too much so his presence doesn’t overwhelm the scenes at the same time. But that will also be a test for first time Twilight Saga director Chris Weitz to make the most of the actor’s talents in a less is more approach.

The Evolution of Edward and Robert

New Moon showcases the delicate balance between Edward Cullen and the ancient Volturi Vampire Clan. [spoilers] Their presence and the consequences that they bring forth to Edward and Bella set up the beginning of the next novel, Eclipse. Love and life are tested in New Moon so it’s up to Robert Pattison and his second interpretation of Edward Cullen to illustrate the actions of an immortalized hero with a new sense of self-realization in regard to how he feels about Bella Swan. Again, given how Robert Pattinson is at the early stages of his career, fans will also get to see the evolution of Edward Cullen along with Robert Pattinson in “near” real time as he develops as an actor.

In many ways the question of Robert Pattinson keeping the presence of Edward alive in New Moon is directly related to Pattinson keeping alive the presence of himself, the actor, to venture into new territory and accept the challenges of Edward. There’s no question that the New Moon production is under an enormous amount of pressure to produce an even more visually stunning and fan-connecting translation of its literary counterpart than Twilight. That pressure also trickles down to the actors and everyone contributing to make New Moon.

Twilight Saga Success: Edward Cullen vs Robert Pattinson

It’s clear that Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will carry more of the visible Twilight load in New Moon than Pattinson, which, at first glance, looks to be more of a pressure filled dynamic. However, the fact that Robert Pattinson has to make good on Edward with less time may be just as much weight as the others combined. On the flip side, Pattinson may be completely at ease with what’s expected of him in New Moon given the fact that he’s spent so much time inside the Twilight world and has the source material to refer back to at any given time. Still, it’s safe to say that the Robert Pattinson prior to the release of Twilight isn’t quite the same Robert Pattinson now on the set of New Moon. No matter how small or large, the success of the Twilight Saga has had some type of affect. How Twilight has changed him, and how any change will affect his embodiment of Edward for a second time is an intriguing thought.

New Moon is under a tighter shooting schedule with a new director. Given the success of Twilight, there’s more pressure to deliver the New Moon goods. Regardless of the final cut of the film, there is no doubt that fans of the Twilight saga, especially those of Robert Pattinson, will fall in love with Edward and the actor for a second time. How will Robert Pattinson be a powerful presence in New Moon? The real answer is hidden deep inside Pattinson himself. For the fans, waiting to see how Robert Pattinson embodies Edward Cullen for the sequel is the small price to pay for true love.
